Mausoleum
One of the most amazing buildings of Bückeburg is the mausoleum of the royal family which was built by the architect Paul Baumgarten under the patronage of Prince Adolf from 1911 to 1915. It is the burial place of the princely house Schaumburg-Lippe.
The mausoleum is situated in the vast gardens to the west of the castle and its architecture is freely based on that of the Roman Pantheon. Its entrance facade is an example for the beginning of neoclassicism.
The mausoleums cupola is 25 meters in height and is covered by one of the largest European golden mosaics. The mosaic includes 1,400 different tints.
